Sustainability

Transparent and without hype.

Sustainability is a topic of our time. As a buzzword, however, it is defined and handled very differently. Unfortunately, it is often overused and sometimes used in the context of greenwashing. We have set ourselves the goal of making our speakers as durable and sustainable as possible. However, we do not want to make any compromises in terms of sound quality and functionality. After all, a sustainable product only helps if it is at least as good as a "conventional" product. We keep our eyes open and want to get better and better when it comes to sustainability. For us, sustainability is characterized by five different areas:

Sustainability has played an important role for us since the development process. The main premise was to develop a speaker with outstanding sound that also supports modern technologies. For us, that means: fully active, digital crossover, WiSA (wireless) and the option of adding streaming, a calibration system and DSP to the speaker. When selecting the components, we made sure to find the most sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions possible right from the start. Often the more sustainable components - considered individually - are small things. Taken all together, however, it does make a difference. Examples of ecological alternatives that we use in our loudspeakers are: Sheep's wool from the Alps as an insulating material, as an alternative to an artificially produced mineral fleece. Cork feet instead of rubber to achieve the same stability and cushioning.

For components that cannot be replaced one-to-one, we try to meet the highest possible ecological standards. When it comes to the housing and paintwork, we ensure that certified wood and environmentally friendly colors are used. Our partner company for housing production was awarded, among other things, the seal for "participation in the environmental and climate alliance Saxony".

During the final assembly of the speaker, we completely dispense with glue or soldering. All components are connected to each other via plug connections or screwed. This allows us to easily replace individual components. If necessary, all parts of the speaker can be changed and repaired independently of each other.

This flexible structure also has another major advantage. In the future, the loudspeaker can be adapted and improved both optically and technically. The design rings are screwed in so that you can buy more design rings and adjust the look of your speaker. The same applies to the magnetic speaker covers. These are deliberately optional, so that none has to be produced for customers who do not want a cover. It's also a way for you to save money.

In the future it is also planned that there will be upgrade kits for tweeters, mid-range drivers and woofers so that you can use them to upgrade and modify your speaker. An important aspect is the use of the digital switch. By using the digital crossover, we can provide new sound presets that are specially adapted to the upgrade kits. This would not be possible with a classic passive crossover, as this is specially tailored to a single chassis. The housing, cabling and insulation can then simply be reused, which in turn saves resources.

Should the speaker reach the end of its life in the distant future, the speaker can be easily disassembled and the individual materials recycled and processed separately.

In addition to the sustainability of the individual components, the topic "Made in Germany" also plays a major role. "Made in Germany" simply ensures that the transport routes are short. Short transport routes reduce CO2 emissions and the impact on the environment. It becomes particularly effective when not only the final assembly takes place in Germany, but also when a large part of the added value comes from here. We therefore mostly use suppliers from Germany or neighboring countries. Components that are not available here must still be purchased from abroad. However, the components are significantly smaller and much lighter than a completely finished speaker. This results in only a fraction of the transport volume or transport weight, making transport much more efficient. Germany and Europe have the strictest regulations and laws for environmental protection in the world. Products manufactured here therefore have the least impact on our nature.

We rely on sustainable materials not only for the speaker itself, but of course also for the packaging. All of our boxes are made from recycled material.

When it comes to inner packaging materials, petroleum-based products such as styrofoam or foam molded parts are generally used almost exclusively today. As an alternative, we use an innovative packaging material made from 100% bio-based, renewable raw materials. This was developed by a small start-up in Germany and adapted for our purpose. Since we use jute or linen bags instead of plastic bags, we can completely do without plastic in our speaker packaging.

We pack the products as small and efficiently as possible, so that the transport can take place effectively. But you too can do your part to protect our environment. We want you to make an informed decision when purchasing your Econik speaker product. Therefore, you also assume the return costs that may arise. Not because we want to be unkind to customers, but because we want you to think carefully about your purchase. This may mean that you buy less quickly or not at all, but in any case, this also means that you return products less often. This in turn reduces emissions.

People are still the most important resource of any company. It is therefore of course important to involve and encourage employees as far as possible through a positive working environment, family-friendly working hours and leisure activities. At the end of the day, it is essential that the employees stand behind the company's philosophy. After all, you often come up with suggestions for improvement and suggestions that can make our loudspeakers or their production even more sustainable. We are grateful that this is the case with us and that our employees not only support the company's orientation, but also constantly improve it in this direction.
